Hello, I’m Kristi Marie Gott.

You can read more about me by scrolling down below the Key Concepts.

I hope your visit to the site is useful and enjoyable.

Key Concepts of WordPress Basics:

  • WordPress Customization

    • First a word of advice regarding browsers.  Use Firefox or Google Chrome instead of Internet Explorer to avoid glitches and problems.  For example, when you’re dragging widgets over to the sidebar Firefox is best.  Explorer sometimes makes the widgets stick or refuse to let you drag them.  It also makes installing plugins have issues.
    •  You can choose a free or commercial theme to fit your topic and needs.  Then add the extensions for that theme to have more design options and color options
    • The current theme for this site is Twenty Eleven, a free theme at WordPress.  To customize it further I downloaded the free plugin for Twenty Eleven Theme Extensions.
    •  Additional plugins customized it further.  To get ideas for customizing the look and function of your wordpress site you can go to Plugins and  Add New on your Dashboard.  There you can click to see Popular Plugins and New Plugins.
  • Content:

    • Content that meets the needs of others is the key. Useful, valuable content is provided when you can answer someone’s questions or provide solutions for others.
  • Themes.

    • There are free themes available from WordPress as well as commercial or premium themes from other providers.  WordPress themes today are available to target specific niches for everything including musicians, artists, clubs and groups, online social groups, online stores, and other ecommerce and marketing.
  • Google SEO:

    •  Google is more skillful than ever at spotting duplicate content, or similar content, and Google punishes this by reducing the search rank.  So originality counts more than ever.
  •  Niches:

    • Find a niche where you have some skill and knowledge.  Provide your own personal, customized solutions to meet the needs of others.
  • Social Media SEO.

    • Social media and search engine optimization can start with signing up for youtube, facebook, twitter, linked in, and forums related to your subject.  By pairing your wordpress posts with videos that you create you’ll have viral content to share on the social media.
  • Viral Marketing

    •  People will link to your useful, original content.  The content will spread in a viral fashion.  Search engines will pick up posts and videos to add to the rankings.
  • Affiliate Marketing

    •  This is one of the easier ways to get started with internet marketing and ecommerce.  You will earn a commission each time a visitor clicks on an affiliate link that you have pasted in for your site.
  • Payments, Paypal and ecommerce

    • Payments are made to you by paypal deposits, mailing checks or other similar ways.  You can sign up for a free Paypal account.
  • Traffic.

    • Getting targeted  traffic and visitors who will be interested in clicking on the links and then making purchases is the key.

Background

My early years were spent enjoying the countryside of the midwest.  In my teens my family  moved to Santa Barbara, Cailfornia.  Additional moves included the Santa Ynez Valley, inland from Santa Barbara, and Pismo Beach, about 10 miles from San Luis Obispo, CA.

Today I live part-time in Pismo Beach and part-time in Florence, Oregon, on the central Oregon coast.

Animals and nature have always been some of my favorite interests.

Education and learning are some of my other interests.  I worked full-time and went to college by taking a combination of night courses, distance courses and by going to school online.

Education:

My college degrees include a Bachelor degree in Social Science from Chapman University (main campus Orange County, California, I attended an extension) and a more recent Associates degree in Computer Business Office Technology from Allan Hancock College, Santa Maria, California.

Other education includes several computer certificates from California Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo, California.

I’m a Certified Tutor at the college level and I enjoy teaching computers.

Experience:

At MicroAge, a Fortune 500 company that supplied tech support for the United Parcel Service, I was an awarding winning telephone tech.

Over the phone we talked customers through setting up their UPS computers for shipping, payments and services.  We also did troubleshooting over the phone for software and hardware issues.

At Allan Hancock College, Santa Maria, California, my job was tutoring students in computer subjects.  My students all did well in their classes and it was very rewarding.

For most of my life I managed medical facilities and held other jobs in the health field.  I’ve also had a computer services business since the 90′s.

The studiomediacam site:

This website uses the WordPress theme Twenty Eleven and also has the Twenty Eleven Extensions plugin which adds more options for formatting and design.  My webhost is Hostgator, known for their legendary telephone help tech support.

Youtube:

My youtube channel has over 280,000 video views, and several of my CNN iReport videos have been chosen to be used on CNN’s site.

Best wishes and Happy Computing,

Kristi Marie Gott
