WordPress Custom Menu allows you to use selected categories, selected pages, or other custom URLs in your custom menu. For instance you might use a category for tutorials and add a custom URL to your youtube channel along with using your About page.
The most basic website can be created using only a static page with the default, automatically created horizontal menu bar listing the page titles.
A custom menu has many advantages. By selecting the specific categories, pages and custom URLs that you wish to add to the custom menu you can help direct your visitors to the follow the most useful path to navigate your site. By useful this means useful and easy for your visitors to find their way around the site. Too often visitors are faced with a confusing bunch of choices and they decide to click on and look for an easier site to navigate.
You can also help direct them along the navigation path to the pages, categories and custom URLs that you wish to highlight or emphasize. Perhaps it is a list of tutorials or a contact page. Perhaps this is a category that is one of the main focus points of your site.
